Back on Track

May has a way of slipping by me.

But the garden is planted and growing quickly.

The chickens will be leaving tomorrow (they are 9 weeks old already!)

The bees are buzzing along.  I added another body a few weeks ago but I’ve not been able to check them due to the rainy weather.

My 4-year-old granddaughter was able to stay with me all last week.  I called it Camp Grandma and we had so much fun. (I did anyway)

Here are some highlights of Camp Grandma.

We visited the lake house where we spent the day collecting roly polyies.

We rode horses (although she told me he was a little slow)

We visited a Tiger and Lion refuge with baby Luke.

We played in the sand

We went fishing

but found more roly polies instead

We ended the week with a trip to the Buffalo River for decoration day, picnics and playing in the river.

We had to travel through the forest to get to the river.  Fortunately, I had a couple of great trailblazers to lead me.

We found a painter set up down the river and watched her paint

We found a huge beech tree we just had to hug

When the river is up, canoers enjoy the swift currents, clear water, and breathtaking bluffs.

For the end of camp talent show, Hallie did car seat tricks

and sang Do You Want to Build a Snowman whilst holding her pin wheel out the window.

She unanimously won the competition.

About the blonde gardener

I'm an Arkansas girl born and raised. I garden in the beautiful Northwest part of the state (zone 6b or 7) surrounded by the Ozark Mountains. My favorite part about the area is we have 4 distinct seasons and are able to enjoy a variety of activities. My main passion is gardening but I also enjoy hiking, birding, 4-wheeling and motorcycle trips. Basically anything outside. Thanks for stopping by! Brenda

Looks like you had a great week! You are a wonderful grandma and that little girl gets cuter each time you post about her. (Looks a lot like a certain blonde gardener we know!)

  4. Glad you had fun with your granddaughter. She’s a cutie. Where exactly are the 9-week-old chickens going? Chicken Bible School? Chicken Camp? Or your freezer?

  5. Me, too! We used to have “camp grandmother” at our house, but they got too old and sophisticated for it. 😀 So you hug these years tightly to you, as best you can…
