As I looked in my flower bed yesterday, I spied this clump of grass.
I grabbed my shovel to remove this unsightly mess.
I knelt down to remove it and saw something.
Sticking out to the side was some Spider Lily foliage. A beautiful, unique flower that blooms without question during the heat and humidity of our summer.
Had I not gotten on my knees, I would not have noticed. It would have been tossed and abandoned in the field.
There is a lesson here. It doesn’t necessarily refer to flowers, but it was found in the garden. Next to the dirt.
Amen.
And Amen.

Yup, half of gardening is close observation.
Is there some grass in that clump, too? I don’t blame you for grabbing the shovel unless that’s the way the spider lily looks in early spring.
yes it’s mostly grass-along with most of that flower bed. I’m so far behind!! and we’ve had snow and sleet this week. grrr
I’m way behind, too. It continues to be unseasonably cold here interspersed with 80 degree days. My garden isn’t even planted except for a row of pole beans.
I know the feeling!
