I took advantage of a beautiful day to do a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
First, I want to bring you up to date on the chicken coop/garden shed project. We have a little more to do on the inside, but my builder guy’s first priority is my dad’s house and then it’s my turn. I’m waiting until the middle of April to plant the living roof. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
But I don’t like the white door. We found it in the barn, but it doesn’t really go with the rustic-ness of the cedar.
Any suggestions? A design? Different color?
To the left of the coop is the barn and this mess is what the chicken’s get to look at.
Wild, thorny blackberry bushes. So I did a little trimming and ended up with this.
This will make those berries sooo much easier to reach come July.
I got tired of being scratched and whacked by thorny limbs, so I decided to go check on the plants in the greenhouse.
The broccoli plants are growing quickly.
At least they were until Sheldon Gray Kitty Cooper jumped on a flat and tipped them over–clearly violating the greenhouse conduct rule of the roommate agreement. Strike one.
The perennials I started from seed last year are waking up.
And, as I rounded the corner of the house, I saw a sunset to the west
And the moon rising in the east
It was a good day.

Soooo jealous of your shed/coop! It looks great. And now I must go start my broccoli plants.
I’m getting anxious to get my chickens and I can’t wait to plant my roof! I’ve never start broccoli from seed but they all came in just a day or two. Fresh broccoli is so good!
I love your whole setup! I even like the door. You might try a fun funky color. You are so blessed.
I love reading your posts.
Leslie, my niece, is an artist and she is going to help me figure out a design for it. I was just thinking as I was walking around the place how blessed I am. You guys need to come out and see us!
Frankly, the chicken coop looks too nice for chickens, though I agree with you about the white door.
I know! It evolved into a much bigger, nicer coop than originally planned. But the garden shed part is almost full and I love that it’s right next to the garden.
I’m going to vote on painting the door. Lovely shed/chicken house.
Thanks! The door does need help. Now to pick the color…
I’d paint the door a color you can live with for now, then keep an eye out for a replacement that strikes your fancy – maybe a salvage door from an old house?
Spring is on the way, for sure!
we think alike. I’ve been on the lookout for an old door in my spare time (which is about 10 min. a week.)
I don’t know what your house colors are, but paint the door a dark tone if it or a complimentary color of it, like dark burgundy or dark forest green etc. I thing that would look great with cedar. Great looking shed! Lynne
I was toying with a midnight blue or dark red. The forest green sounds good, too. Thanks!
Beautiful building! As far as the door…I have a friend who roughly stained pallet wood slats in complementary colors and attached them to his door – he painted the door black, closed it, and attached the wood just to the part that’s showing when the door is closed. It doesn’t affect the weatherstripping, etc. It’s beautiful. Just a thought
(Found you on the Chicken Chick Hop)
That sounds very interesting. We have pallets available everywhere around here for free. Definitely a possibility! Thank you very much!

I am in awe (read as pea green with jealousy) of your chicken coop/shed. I’m in the process of trying to figure out what size/shape/etc. I need for our new chicken coop(s).
I had looked and looked at designs and sorta of designed it myself. It helps if you have a builder that also sees your vision. Good luck and thanks for visiting my blog! Brenda
I can’t WAIT to see the living roof! Your coop is amazing. I vote for either a barn red door on the cedar coop OR french country blue.
Looking forward to the progress report! Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week!
Cheers,

Thanks! I’m really excited about it. I’ve got a couple of colors in mind for the door and a niece who is artistic. We’ll get our heads together and hopefully make it fit right in. Of course, I’m thinking window boxes, etc.
A lovely chicken coop & run. How big is the run? I just got my 4 Ft x 6 Ft coop and need to build the run. Yours look very nice and roomy. What type of wood & wire do you use for the run? Thanks for sharing your garden
Thanks for visiting my blog! My run is 12×16. The posts are cedar and I have chicken wire around the sides and 2 ft. From the edges.
Hi from the chicken chick hop! Your post made me sigh with contentment. yes. great day! like suggestions of a bold color for the door. also, you can “stain” them to look like wood if it is wood grain pattern (my suburb neighbors did it to their front door and it looked awesome – add some iron rustic hardware and accents and only you will know. Hoping the rest of your days are just as great (minus naughty kitty). – danielle http://www.mossytrees.blogspot.com
Danielle, thanks for visiting my blog! And for the suggestion for the door. Sometimes I feel like painting it a bold bright color and other times I want a darker color. It takes me forever to decide, too!
